All about Massachusetts Masshealth

Massachusetts Masshealth Free Health Insurance Program. Several people have doubts about health plans in the United States. How to apply, what documents are needed, whether or not you have to pay and what is the value. In the US, having a health plan is very expensive, depending on the state, the amounts can be around $500 dollars a month. But what a lot of people don’t know is that some states have free health insurance, which is what Massachusetts has, it has MassHealth. This is a completely free health plan, but it is a state health plan. This means that you will not use the public service, in fact you use a government health plan and this plan charges the state.

Massachusetts Medicaid (MassHealth) pays for health care for certain low and medium income people living in Massachusetts. MassHealth offers health-care benefits directly or by paying part or all of your health-insurance premiums. MassHealth offers different types of coverage based on your age, whether you are a parent, pregnant, disabled, HIV positive or have breast or cervical cancer, and whether you work for a small employer. MassHealth will decide if you are eligible and give you the most complete coverage that you qualify for.

Application process

You can enter these sites: Lowell Community Health Center ( Lowell Community Health Center ) and Framingham Hospital ( MetroWest Medical Center ) and apply. It’s a relatively easy process. Newcomers can also apply.

They will ask for two documents: your passport (with or without a visa) and proof of address. To prove address, someone can write a letter in their own hand and sign proving that you live with them in that place, in addition to water, electricity, telephone bills…

The process is very simple, you will get there and say that you want to apply for MassHealth . They may have someone who speaks Portuguese there, but if they don’t, practice the most important phrases at home. You can also bring a friend to do the translation for you.

You can also apply online here (English), or you can download an application for health coverage and help paying costs (English). You can also speak to MassHealth customer service and submit your application or request by phone: +1 (800) 841-2900. For more information, visit  this website (in English) or call +1 (800) 497-4648.

important to know

If you are working, your plan may possibly be denied, as MassHealth is for people who cannot afford to pay. Anyone who does not have a job or a source of income is eligible for the health plan. Since if you don’t have income, you can’t pay. And if you can’t afford it, you can apply for MassHealth .

In the United States, people believe your words a lot. They will hardly doubt what you say, as American culture is like that. People don’t usually outmaneuver each other, or give that “Brazilian way” to things. So, everyone is responsible for their actions. Be honest and don’t take advantage of MassHealth health insurance if you can afford health insurance.

You will be entitled to urgent and emergency care in several hospitals and clinics, and you will also be entitled to some dental treatments. So it’s always important that you call the office or hospital beforehand to ask if your plan covers a certain type of treatment. Call, pass your card code (received at your residence after application) and they will inform you if your plan covers that particular desired treatment or not. If so, you will not be charged anything. If you don’t have it, they will give you a value, it can even be promotional, or the full value.

Sticky notes:

  • Keep your address updated in clinics and hospitals;
  • With your Health Insurance active it will be easier to register at the clinic or hospital;
  • Have your Medical ID number, as it facilitates your medical care;
  • Visit your PCP regularly, take exams and take care of your physical and mental health;
  • Seek medical, psychological and psychiatric help. Don’t wait for the problem to become chronic; At the first signs seek help.
