How to set up and use fall detection on Apple Watch

One of the best life-saving features of the Apple Watch is fall detection and automatic emergency calls. If you have the feature disabled, below we will tell you how to enable and use it.

The fall detection feature on Apple Watch is available to all users over the age of 18. It can work constantly or only during training.

The feature is enabled by default for users over 55 years of age. It is useful not only for the elderly, but also for young people. Apple warns that the feature may not detect all falls, and false positives are also possible.

Here’s how  Apple describes  the feature:

If the Apple Watch SE or Apple Watch Series 4 and later on your wrist detects a hard drop, it will provide a haptic alert, play a tone, and display an alert. You can call emergency services or close an alert by pressing the Digital Crown, pressing the Close icon in the top left, or pressing the All Right button.

How to enable fall detection on Apple Watch

The feature is available to users over the age of 18 on Apple Watch Se and Apple Watch Series 4 and later.

  • Open the  Apple Watch  app on iPhone.
  • Select  the “My Watch” tab  in the lower left corner.
  • Scroll down and select  ” Emergency call – SOS  .
  • Here you can enable fall detection. The function can work always or only during training.
  • It’s worth checking your medical card and emergency contact details at the bottom of the settings for the function to work correctly.

You can view your crash history through the Health app on your iPhone by choosing Browse > More Data.

Here is some more information on how emergency calls work after fall detection:

If your Apple Watch detects that you are moving, it will wait for your response to an alert without automatically calling emergency services. If your Apple Watch detects that you haven’t been moving for a minute, it will automatically place the call.

After the call ends, the watch sends an emergency message to your contacts with your location and that a hard fall has been detected and emergency services have been called. The watch uses your emergency contacts from the Medical Card section.
