Are you having trouble sending direct messages on Instagram on your iPhone? In this article, we will talk about different ways to fix it.

Not sending direct messages on Instagram

1. No “Message” button

If you’ve gone to someone’s Instagram profile and you don’t see the “Message” button at all, tap the three-dot icon in the top right corner and select “Send Message.” Now type your message and send it.

Important: If you can’t reply to someone’s story with a message, it means that the user has turned off replies to their stories.

2. Check the Internet

Make sure your internet connection is working properly. You can do this by opening any website in Safari. Also, check if you have a VPN enabled.

If you’re using mobile data, go to Settings > Cellular and make sure the toggle next to the Instagram app is green.

3. Restart Instagram

Sometimes, some app features may not work due to bugs. To fix this, all you have to do is force close the app and restart it.

4. Restart your iPhone

System errors on the device may be to blame. Turn off your iPhone, wait about a minute, and turn it back on. Maybe this will solve the problem.

5. Update the app

Bugs in an outdated version of your app can interfere with sending messages and lead to other issues. Go to the App Store and update Instagram to the latest version available.

6. Instagram Post Limit

Instagram has a certain limit on how you can send messages. It is not known how many messages are allowed. According to unofficial information, you can write from 50 to 100 new people a day. This number may be even lower for new and newly created accounts. Large accounts may not have a limit at all.

7. The user has restricted messages

Sometimes there is a restriction on sending messages to celebrities and large company accounts. This happens when an account’s private messages are overloaded. In this case, try waiting and trying to send the message again.

8. Subscribe to an account

Sometimes, the Message button doesn’t appear until you subscribe to the account. Subscribe and see if that fixes the problem.

9. You’ve been blocked

If your account has been blocked, you won’t be able to send messages to them. If you clicked on the link to the profile that blocked you, you will see that they have 0 posts, when in fact they are. That way, you can know for sure that you’ve been blocked.

10. The profile has been deleted

If you’ve been chatting with this profile in the past and suddenly the messages stop being sent, the user may have deleted the profile. Instagram itself could also block this profile temporarily or permanently.

11. Instagram is temporarily down

Sometimes Instagram stops working due to technical issues. Google if other users are having the same problem. Perhaps the problems are present in your country.

12. Wait for a while

If all else fails, we advise you to wait at least an hour, and only then move on to subsequent solutions. Perhaps, after this time, the problem will disappear on its own.

13. Re-log in to Instagram

Make sure you remember your password before doing this. If not, reset it and install a new one.

Here’s how to re-log in to Instagram on iPhone:

  1. Open the app and select your profile in the bottom right corner.
  2. At the top, click the menu icon and select the “Settings & Privacy” section.
  3. At the very bottom, click Sign Out.
  4. Restart your iPhone.
  5. Open the Instagram app and log in to your account

14. Reinstall the app

Sometimes, only reinstalling Instagram helps to solve the problem. Simply uninstall the app and then install it again through the App Store.

15. Open Instagram in your browser

If the messages in the app still don’t work, open the instagram.com website in your browser and try sending a message there.

16. Try a group chat

If you can’t send a direct message to a specific user, create a group chat with them with at least one other participant. After that, send a message to the group chat, and maybe the right person will see it.

17. Leave a comment below the post

If all else fails and the message still needs to be sent, you can leave a comment under the person’s post. However, remember that this is only effective for small accounts, as large ones receive hundreds of comments per hour.
