Dynamic Island content: Apple introduced the iPhone 14 Pro with a new capsule-shaped notch at the top of the screen, which it called “Dynamic Island”.

The display pixels around the dynamic island combine it into a single capsule-shaped area that changes size and shape to accommodate different types of alerts, notifications and interactions, turning it into a kind of central information hub.

But what if the information that appears in Dynamic Island distracts you, especially when you’re trying to focus on something else?

Unfortunately, there is currently no way to disable Dynamic Island content, as its behavior is hardwired into iOS 16. However, if you get distracted by its animation, you can dismiss it by swiping left or right on the Dynamic Island.

For example, if you are listening to music in Apple Music, and dismiss the sound waveform and artwork on the dynamic island, the music will continue to play in the background. The same thing happens when you hide the timer notification – it will still continue to count down in the background, even if it is no longer visible on the screen.

How “Dynamic Island” works on iPhone 14 Pro: apps, games, list of supported features and more

Dynamic Island is split into two background activities

If the Dynamic Island is split into two background activities and you want to get rid of one or both, use the same swipe gesture on the large segment to make it disappear. Then swipe over the rest of the activity in the same way.

If you dismiss all notifications on a dynamic island, it will return to its previous appearance, no longer distracting you.
